Getting older 101

I lost my mother in 2001.  She was 87.  She had fallen and broken her hip 6 years earlier and we struggled until her death to determine where she belonged.  These were our options...these are everybody's options.

1.  At home with us

2.  Over 55 housing

3.  Assisted Living

4.  Rest Home

5.  Nursing Home

1.  At home with us:  Before the fall occurred we had always planned to bring Mum home with us.  The plans changed since we have a 2 story home and she needed much more attention than we could provide.  My mother never complained about anything, she was one of the most upbeat people you could ever meet.  Every time I went to visit her, no matter where it was, her roommate complained enough for the world.  She had one good roommate in 7 years.

2.  Assisted Living - Once we make the decision, who do we call to help figuring out what to part with, how to pack it up and get rid of it.

3.   Information on Local Rest Homes

4.  Locating a good Nursing Home

5.  Over 55 Housing

We spend the lst 50 years of our lives collecting beautiful things and the 2nd half trying to figure out how the heck to get rid of them.

Since my goal is to become the specialist in this area, largely due to the fact that I will be able to educate myself as well, I am going to spend quite some time building this portion of the website and it will grow and change at all times.

The most important thing I learned is that usually the senior does not seek out this information.  Their children do.  Why you ask...because we are immortal and we certainly will never think of ourselves as old.  So, I am going to do all the research for you so you will have only one call to make - - to me .
